Canada's Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) has merged with the Global Harmonizing System (GHS). It now follows an international structure that outlines rules for classifying, labelling, and handling hazardous products. The updated system also provides a standardized format for Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), previously known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), enabling workers to identify and handle hazardous products safely within the workplace.

Our comprehensive program is designed to exceed the requirements for general WHMIS training and is based on the most current legislation. The course primarily consists of theory-based learning, complemented by hands-on training using commonly used equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) found in the workplace, such as gloves, specialty suits, and respirators.

Upon completing the theory portion, participants will undergo a knowledge review test comprising multiple-choice, true/false, and essay-type questions. These tests are graded, returned to participants, and reviewed to ensure thorough comprehension. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass.

Our WHIMS training program includes

Understand how to identify hazardous products safely in the workplace

Recognize WHMIS's essential role in protecting Canadian workers' health and safety

Identify the WHMIS responsibilities of suppliers, employers, and workers

Understand the requirements related to supplier and workplace labels, including how to locate and interpret the information on these labels

Recognize WHMIS symbols and understand the hazards each symbol represents

Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) as a comprehensive source of information about hazardous chemicals and know how to locate various types of information within them

Identify WHMIS exemptions for suppliers and importers

Be familiar with general safe work practices when handling hazardous products

It is important to note that employers must also provide workplace-specific training and instruction for each hazardous product present in their specific workplaces. This course covers basic WHMIS awareness, providing a general understanding of recognizing and accessing information about hazardous products. Detailed handling instructions for specific products are not covered in this course.
